About CaRather

CaRather covers the money side of buying a car: negotiation, financing, leasing, affordability, and the finance office. Not the cars themselves.

Why the transaction, not the vehicle

Reviewing cars requires driving them, at length, across conditions. Sites that do that well have fleets and test tracks. We don’t, so we don’t pretend to — there are no road tests or model recommendations here.

What’s badly served is the other half of the purchase. Nearly everyone researches the car carefully and then improvises the transaction, which is exactly backwards: the car is a preference, and the transaction is where the money is. Dealer profit composition, lease pricing, what the finance office sells and why, and what “affordable” means once insurance, fuel, and depreciation are included — that’s the material here.

The AI part

The domain says .ai and that’s genuine, but bounded. A conversational AI model is a good tool for:

  • Rehearsing a negotiation out loud before you’re sitting across a desk.
  • Explaining an unfamiliar line on a lease worksheet or finance contract.
  • Generating the questions you should be asking about a specific product or fee.
  • Restating a contract clause in plain language so you can decide whether to query it.

It is a bad tool for anything current: prices, incentives, inventory, interest rates, or local fees and taxes. Models generate confident, plausible numbers for all of those, and being confidently wrong about a rate is worse than not knowing. We flag that distinction every time it comes up.

Our rules

  • No prices, rates, or dollar figures. They vary by market, month, and credit profile, and we can’t verify them. We describe structure and direction instead.
  • No car reviews or model recommendations.
  • No invented worked examples. Arithmetic gets explained in words.
  • No affiliate links and no outbound links. Nothing here is a placement.
  • We describe industry structure, not the conduct of named companies.
